Founded in 1971 Tees Valley Gilbert &Sullivan Society (then know as Rosedale Gilbert & Sullivan Society) was the brain child of the late Greta Cook, a well known singer, music teacher, choir mistress and enthusiast for amateur theatre. Greta felt the area needed a society devoted to the Savoy Operas.
With the help of, among others, Nancy Chilvers, Margaret Seaman and ex Savoyard Beryl Dixon (our first producer) she set about the task with a will - and her knitting needle as a baton. Using her ladies choir as a nucleus and drawing members from all over the district she formed the society.
Since 1971 the society has performed all but 'The Grand Duke' from the Gilbert & Sullivan canon and we continue to bring the joys of the Savoy Operas to audiences around Teesside.
